Francisco Hernandez Rivas Dead, Maritza Lara on the Run after Los Angeles Car Accident
LOS ANGELES, CA (June 19, 2019) – A driver died and four other people sustained injuries in a two-vehicle crash in North Hills Sunday morning.
Coroner’s Lt. Larry Dietz publicly identified the victim Monday as 48-year-old Francisco Hernandez Rivas of North Hills.
The crash occurred at around 5:35 a.m. Maritza Joana Lara, 27, of Van Nuys, was driving a northbound 2016 Lexus IS 250 sedan on Haskell Avenue. After that, she struck a westbound blue 2005 Nissan Murano SUV on Parthenia Street. An initial investigation determined that the Lexus ran a red light, causing the deadly crash.
Officials pronounced Hernandez Rivas dead at the scene.
Lara ran away from the scene and left four injured occupants of the vehicle. This according to Officer Mike Lopez of the Los Angeles Police Department’s Media Relations Section. All injured parties were transported to a hospital in serious condition.
The police believe that alcohol might have played a role in the accident due to some empty beer cans found inside the Lexus. Furthermore, they found what appeared to be a crack pipe in the vehicle. They are now searching for Lara.
Our heartfelt condolences to the loved ones of Francisco Hernandez Rivas.
