Fatal Pedestrian Crash on 580 Freeway at Cutting Boulevard
RICHMOND, CA (July 17, 2019) – A woman was killed in a pedestrian crash Wednesday morning on 580 Freeway in Richmond, authorities said.
The fatal crash happened around 5:41 a.m., along the eastbound lanes of the freeway. Dispatchers arrived near the Cutting Boulevard off-ramp.
According to the CHP, a female pedestrian was hit by a truck as she was crossing through traffic on foot. She was pushed forward upon impact, where officers believe she was also struck by other vehicles.
The female victim was later pronounced dead on scene as a result of the impact. She was also later identified as a 38-year-old Francisca Palos-Lopez.
Furthermore, the unidentified truck driver remained on scene and cooperated with officials.
Why Palos-Lopez was on the freeway is currently unclear. However, there is a homeless camp nearby and authorities were trying to determine if she may have lived there.
Eastbound lanes of 580 Freeway were closed for a brief time while a SigAlert issued in the area. However, all lanes were later reopened by 7:50 a.m.
The case remains ongoing at this time.
