DUI Driver Arrested in Fatal Chain-Reaction Crash on 405 Freeway in Fountain Valley
FOUNTAIN VALLEY, CA (March 30, 2019) – A boy was killed and ten others were hospitalized following a chain-reaction crash on 405 Freeway late Saturday evening.
Officials received reports about the fatal highway collision around 10:36 p.m. First responders arrived to the scene near the Euclid Street off-ramp soon after.
According to reports, a black 2014 Toyota Tacoma slammed into the back of a 2015 Honda Odyssey that had broken down in the carpool lane. Then, a second northbound pickup truck subsequently collided with the first. An ambulance unit was called to the scene due to needed medical attention.
One unidentified boy in the minivan suffered life-threatening injuries. He eventually succumbed to his wounds and was pronounced dead on scene. Five other family members in the minivan also suffered multiple non life-threatening injuries.
Furthermore, four occupants in the second pickup truck sustained minor injuries. Ten victims total were transported to nearby hospitals for further treatment.
The Tacoma’s driver, a 24-year-old Tustin resident, was sent to OC Global Medical Center with serious injuries. He was expected to remain hospitalized for several more days. He will be arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence upon release.
The incident is currently under investigation. No more information has been released to the public at this time.
