WSP Arrests Driver in Sumner Head-On Collision
Sumner, WA (February 16, 2024) – A 26-year-old Puyallup woman and a 26-year-old Sumner man were injured following a State Route 162 DUI crash Wednesday evening.
The traffic accident happened at about 8:46 p.m. west of Rivergrove Drive East.
Investigators said the Sumner man was driving a Chevrolet Suburban SUV westbound on the freeway. At the same time, the Puyallup woman was driving an eastbound Ford Escape SUV on the same road.
The Chevrolet driver crossed the center line and struck the Ford SUV head-on.
The impact of the collision sent the Chevrolet to the center turn lane while the Ford rested on the left shoulder.
Officers said the cause of the collision was the failure to maintain the lane. They arrested the Sumner man on suspicion of driving under the influence and vehicular assault.
Traffic Accidents Can Be Avoided
When driving, it is important to follow all driving laws and the conditions of the road. If you see any vehicle or driver that looks dangerous, keep your distance. If you notice a vehicle weaving in and out of the lanes, following too closely, or traveling at a higher rate of speed, move over a few lanes and get out of their way.
Most importantly, do not drink and drive.
Drive defensively to ensure the safety of surrounding vehicles and to avoid incidents like the State Route 162 DUI crash.
