Male Pedestrian Fatally Struck by Vehicle on 10 Freeway in Fontana
FONTANA, CA (January 31, 2019) – A man was killed after being struck by a car early Thursday morning in Fontana, CHP officials said.
The fatal crash happened around 4:53 a.m. on 10 Freeway at Sierra Avenue.
According to the California Highway Patrol, a male pedestrian, wearing shorts and a hoodie, was walking along the westbound lanes of 10 Freeway near Sierra Avenue and was in the center divider, when he was struck by a gray Toyota Corolla.
The victim suffered fatal injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene. His identity has not yet been released pending next of kin notification.
A coroner was called to the scene around 5:20 a.m., and two lanes of the freeway were shut down.
As of 6:00 a.m., traffic on the westbound 10 Freeway was backed up to Pepper Avenue in Rialto.
