79-Year-Old Male Victim Fatally Struck in DUI Car Crash on Interstate 80 in Dixon
Dixon, CA (May 7, 2020) – Thursday afternoon, 79-year-old Floyd Merchant of Sacramento, was killed in an auto collision on I-80.
Officers first responded to the scene around 3:04 p.m., after receiving multiple 911 calls. According to reports, his 1997 white Toyota sedan bumped into the east side of Pitt School Road. Due to the impact of the collision, Merchant suffered life-threatening injuries before he was later pronounced.
CHP spokesman Officer Miguel Camarena says that Floyd’s wife was the driver of the vehicle. Anita Maria Jones-Merchant was said to be under the influence of either drugs or alcohol at the time.
In addition, one unidentified adult male was also riding with them. Medics say he and Anita suffered serious injuries in the said accident. However, there has been no update on their current condition.
Authorities closed one of the east bound lanes in I-80 for more than an hour Thursday afternoon. However, the roadway has since reopened to traffic.
Furthermore, Anita was later apprehended and charged with felony DUI and vehicular homicide.
