60-Year-Old Castaic Man Fatally Injured in Accident near 10 Freeway
BEAUMONT, CA (June 26, 2018) – A driver was killed Tuesday evening after his big rig overturned on the westbound Moreno Valley (60) Freeway near 10 Freeway. The deceased victim was later identified as 60-year-old Florentino Hernandez of Castaic.
According to the California Highway Patrol, the crash took place shortly before 9:30 PM. A tractor-trailer, driven Hernandez, drifted off the freeway and went through a perimeter fence onto Western Knolls Avenue. Hernandez attempted to turn back into the roadway, slamming the truck into a concrete median barrier and overturned.
The trucker was extricated by the Cal Fire/Riverside County Fire crews and transported to a nearby hospital for treatment and evaluation. Unfortunately, he succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead an hour after the collision. No other injuries were reported by the authorities.
The westbound lanes of 60 Freeway were temporarily shut down for approximately two hours as the crews worked to free the trapped driver and to clear the overturned big rig, which was loaded with recycled cardboard. Alcohol and/or drugs have not been ruled out as contributing factors in the crash. An ongoing investigation will be handled by the CHP to determine the main cause of this incident.
