Passenger Florencio Calderon Dies in DUI Accident on Highway 101, Suspect Jorge Angel Perez Arrested
Ventura, CA (July 22, 2020)– A DUI collision on Highway 101 killed Florencio Calderon on Saturday, and police arrested Jorge Angel Perez afterwards.
CHP said 19-year-old Jorge Angel Perez was driving a 2007 Ford Mustang traveling northbound on US-101 on July 18.
Perez was seen speeding north of Telephone Road approaching the SR-126 transition road at about 2:03 a.m.
Perez then veered off trying to avoid a vehicle going slower in front of him; however, he lost control. The Ford Mustang went off the roadway and overturned down an embankment before it came to rest on its roof.
As a result, 21-year-old Mr. Calderon, who was reportedly not wearing a seatbelt, was ejected from the vehicle and died.
Furthermore, Mr. Garcia, Mr. Rodriguez, and the passengers of the Ford Mustang were brought to Ventura County Medical Center. They all reported having moderate injuries from the crash.
Police Arrest
Moreover, Perez was arrested for Felony Driving Under the Influence causing injury/death and gross vehicular manslaughter. He was booked into Ventura County Main Jail.
The investigation is still on-going. Police are asking anyone who might have information regarding the incident to call the Ventura Area CHP office at (805) 662-2640.
