Francisco Padilla Arrested after Crashing into Front Yard of Home at Brown Street while Under the Influence

BAKERSFIELD, CA (June 28, 2018) – A woman and her two grandchildren were hospitalized after a stolen vehicle crashed into the front yard of a house on Monterey Street near Haley Street.

According to the Bakersfield Police, the crash took place around 3:45 PM in the 1400 block of Monterey Street. A vehicle, driven by 21-year-old Francisco Padilla, was heading south on Brown Street when it veered off the roadway and crashed through a fence.

There, he hit Florencia Samaoya and her two grandchildren, a 6-year-old girl and a 2-year-old girl. They were playing on the porch of their home.

Bystanders rushed to the scene to help the 6-year-old trapped underneath the vehicle, but it was the children’s grandfather that ultimately used a jack to lift the vehicle off of the child. Other witnesses attempted to chase Padilla after he fled the scene on foot.

The victims were transported to the hospital for treatment and medical evaluation. The 6-year-old sustained major burn injuries and was listed in critical, but stable, condition. Samaoya and the 2-year-old were treated for minor injuries.

Bakersfield Police revealed that the vehicle utilized by Padilla was stolen from East California near Union Street, earlier that day. He was arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence of drugs, hit-and-run, and auto theft. Anyone with relevant information regarding this incident is encouraged to call (661) 327-7111. No further details were released to the public at this time.
