3 Injured in Hit-And-Run Crash on 43rd Avenue and McDowell Road in Phoenix

Phoenix, AZ (October 9, 2023) – Early Sunday morning, 49-year-old Flavio Ortiz died, and three others sustained injuries in a hit-and-run crash on 43rd Avenue and McDowell Road.

The fatal hit-and-run happened at around 1 a.m. on October 8.

Paramedics from the police and fire departments found two SUVs involved in the collision. 

One black SUV was empty, while four people were in the gray SUV. All four people were taken to the hospital where one of them, later identified as 49-year-old Flavio Ortiz, died from his injuries. 

The other three people are expected to survive. According to investigators, the gray SUV was turning left from 43rd Avenue onto McDowell Road when it collided with the black SUV traveling southbound on 43rd Avenue.

Police said the suspect from the other SUV remains at large, and anyone with information is asked to call Phoenix police or Silent Witness.

Further investigation is ongoing.
