5 Hurt in Federal Way Multi-Vehicle Accident
FEDERAL WAY, WA (January 14, 2019) – Five people were hospitalized following a multi-vehicle accident involving four vehicles on January 11.
The incident occurred about 7:10 a.m. on 320th Street and 26th Avenue, in front of Decatur High School. The principal of Decatur, Jamie Tough, stated that the incident involved both students and parents.
Capt. Jeff Bellinghausen, community affairs officer for South King Fire and Rescue stated that a person was pulled away from a vehicle at the scene and there were no traumas or fatalities.
The SW 320th Street in both directions in front of the school were shut down for around forty minutes as the Federal Way Police Department and South King Fire came to the area. The street has since reopened.
FWPD Cmdr. Casey Jones revealed that the collision may be caused by a pickup truck running a red light and then colliding into an Escalade. The Escalade then crashed into another car, causing the third car to struck a fourth car.
Alcohol was ruled out as a factor in the collision.
Principal Jamie Tough stated, “Scholar safety is of utmost importance and with school in session, we would like to remind all drivers, scholars, and families to be aware of their surroundings as they travel to and from school. During the winter months, the early mornings and later afternoons will be darker as students head to and from school.”
