Injuries Reported in Dallas Motorcycle Accident on 5500 Columbia Avenue
DALLAS, TX (December 6, 2023) – Early Sunday morning, longtime Dallas firefighter Kenneth Burke sustained injuries in an alarming motorcycle crash on 5500 Columbia Avenue.
The incident happened at about 2:45 a.m. in the 5500 block of Columbia Avenue in Dallas.
According to reports, an alleged drunk driver struck and seriously injured the off-duty firefighter.
“They have induced a coma. He’s got a lot of internal injuries. He’s had two surgeries so far,” said Michael Burke, his older brother.
Meanwhile, 51-year-old Crescencio Del Rio Rodriguez is facing intoxication assault with a vehicle with serious bodily injuries in the crash.
Also, officers added that Rodriguez failed the field sobriety tests and had a breathalyzer reading of 0.168, based on an arrest warrant affidavit obtained by WFAA. Thus, authorities arrested him at the scene.
Reports added that as Burke rode his motorcycle east, the suspect turned left into a vacant lot, colliding into Burke with a 2017 Chevrolet Silverado.
Subsequently, Burke was run over by Rodriguez’s truck.
As a result, Burke was in hemorrhagic shock and sustained injuries to his head, spleen, pancreas, and liver, the affidavit said.
At this time, the circumstances that led to the crash remained unclear. Once additional details become available, the public will be notified.
Due to the limited information available, the authorities continued to investigate the crash.
