19-Year-Old in Custody After Santa Maria Accident on Betteravia Road
SANTA MARIA, CA (November 5, 2020) – Monday, authorities arrested Fidel Lopez following a DUI crash on Betteravia Road at Brown Road.
According to authorities, officers responded to a two-vehicle crash on Betteravia Road at Brown Road at around 2:38 p.m.
Reports revealed that while driving northbound on Betteravia, 19-year-old Fidel Lopez attempted to make a turn to Brown Road in front of an oncoming vehicle.
The collision trapped the 23-year-old driver of the other vehicle. Furthermore, responders transported that driver to a nearby hospital via helicopter, after suffering a fractured femur.
Authorities said that Lopez attempted to flee from the scene but the damage to his vehicle prevented him from doing so.
CHP determined that Lopez is under the influence of alcohol and arrested him on suspicion of felony DUI and hit-and-run.
