Fetus Killed in Rear-End Crash on Interstate 5 [Fresno, CA]

Fresno, CA (October 15, 2024) –  A fetus was killed in a rear-end crash on Interstate 5 Friday morning.

The authorities responded at 10 a.m. to the three-vehicle crash south of Highway 145.

Troopers said a 2017 GMC Yukon, was southbound on Interstate 5 in front of the Subaru. The 2022 Subaru Forester was also traveling south on the same freeway in front of the Hyundai

Investigators say a driver in a 2023 Hyundai Elantra was southbound on Interstate 5 at 70 miles per hour. 

At the same time, a 2022 Subaru Forester was also southbound on the freeway in front of the Hyundai. Then, a 2017 GMC Yukon was also traveling south on the same freeway in front of the Subaru. 

The Subaru and GMC drivers slowed and stopped due to an unrelated collision ahead. However, the Hyundai driver did not notice that traffic ahead of him had stopped and rear-ended the Subaru.

The impact pushed the Subaru forward and rear-ended the GMC Yukon.

A pregnant woman in the Subaru incurred facial trauma and a possible concussion. Sky Life airlifted her to Community Regional Medical Center. 

Unfortunately, her fetus was killed in the collision.

Investigators said alcohol and/or drugs did not appear to be a factor in the fatal crash on Interstate 5.
