SUN CITY, CA (January 15, 2018) – Two injured and two dead in car crash on 215 freeway just north of McCall Blvd, around 7:12 PM on Monday night.
According to the Cal Fire/Riverside County Fire Department news release, a 1999 Dodge was traveling southbound on Interstate 215, when it broke down in the third lane of the freeway. Fernando Vazquez, 24, and Giselle Vazquez, 19, got out of the car to push it out of traffic while a 50-year-old woman inside the broken down vehicle steered.
A 2004 Honda traveling 65 mph struck the pair, killing them instantly. The Honda driver, a 63-year old Solana Beach man, said that he didn’t see the disabled vehicle, according to officers.
When officials arrived, they found Fernando and Giselle on the hood of the Honda, where they were pronounced dead at the scene. The Honda driver was looked at by paramedics for minor injuries, but was not hospitalized.
According to the California Highway Patrol, the two cars and debris from the crash were blocking lanes. Lanes were closed for several blocks as authorities transported victims and cleared the wreckage.
Alcohol and drugs are not suspected to be involved in this fatal accident.
