Fernando Garduno Detained after Woman Killed in San Jose DUI Car Crash on 280 Freeway
SAN JOSE, CA (June 24, 2019) – A 21-year-old woman died while the others suffered injuries in an alleged DUI car crash on 280 Freeway on June 21.
The three victims were all passengers in a 2002 BMW.They did not wear seat belts. Hence, they were thrown off from the vehicle after the 21-year-old Fernando Garduno lost control while making exit at the 7th Street offramp, said CHP Officer Ross Lee.
The 21-year-old female passenger died at the scene. However, her identity remains unrevealed due to pending family notification.
Meanwhile, the two female passengers, ages 18 and 26, went to a hospital with major injuries.
The incident occurred around 12:11 a.m. on northbound 280 Freeway at the 7th Street off-ramp. Lee revealed that the driver veered off the road, fall down an embankment, overturned and landed on its wheels.
Authorities arrested Fernando Garduno on suspicion of felony driving under the influence and vehicular manslaughter.
