Fermin Melendez-Guerra Arrested after Crippling Hit-and-Run Crash on Date Palm Drive [Cathedral City, CA]

Injuries Reported in Cathedral City Auto Accident on Date Palm Drive and Buddy Rogers Avenue

CATHEDRAL CITY, CA (December 16, 2024) – Saturday night, Fermin Melendez-Guerra was arrested after a hit-and-run crash on Date Palm Drive.

The incident happened at around 10:40 p.m. on Date Palm Drive and Buddy Rogers Avenue.

Officers responding to the scene found a driver with severe injuries, who was rushed to Desert Regional Medical Center and listed in critical condition.

The investigation revealed that Fermin Melendez-Guerra, 46, was driving south on Date Palm Drive when he ran a red light at Buddy Rogers Drive, striking another vehicle that was turning north onto Date Palm Drive.

“The driver at fault failed to stay on scene, call 911 or provide any medical aid to the victim,” Enos said. “He was later located away from the scene and taken into custody without incident. It appears alcohol, drugs or a combination of both are contributing factors in this collision.”

Melendez-Guerra, a Cathedral City resident, was arrested on suspicion of felony DUI and felony hit-and-run and booked at the Riverside County Jail in Indio.
