1 Dead and 2 Hurt in Big Bear Car Accident
BIG BEAR, CA (March 15, 2019) – A 22-year-old female passenger died while two drivers sustained injuries in a car collision on Highway 18 on March 13.
The CHP responded to the area at 9:44 a.m. in an area known as the Arctic Circle near milepost 41.00.
The CHP’s media release revealed that a 31-year-old male Elk Grove driver of a white 2004 Honda Civic drove across the yellow lines into oncoming traffic. Afterward, 80-year-old Scott Anderson of Big Bear, driving a Chevy Tahoe, hit the Honda. The crash led to significant damage to the Honda’s passenger side.
Officials revealed that the female passenger in the Honda died in the crash. Meanwhile, responders found the unresponsive Honda driver at the area. The medics took him to Bear Valley Community Hospital.
Responders eventually flew him to a trauma center since the LifeFlight helicopter couldn’t land at the area due to high winds. Furthermore, the Chevy’s driver suffered minor injuries.
During the incident, there was a light traffic condition. However, officials noted that ice could be found on the roadways. Authorities ruled out drugs or alcohol as a factor in the crash.
