Felipe Tello Charged, 5 Injured in DUI Head-On Crash in Coachella
COACHELLA, CA (July 26, 2019) – A man was suspected of DUI causing head-on crash Friday evening in Coachella, according to the California Highway Patrol.
The crash happened around 7:30 p.m. on Highway 86 at Avenue 50. CHP officials said a 38-year-old Felipe Tello of Indio was heading northbound on the highway expressway when he crossed into the opposite lanes and collided head-on with a southbound vehicle at Avenue 50.
Paramedics rushed the four people in the southbound vehicle to Desert Regional Medical Center in Palm Springs with non-life-threatening injuries, according to the sheriff’s department.
Tello was also hospitalized with unspecified injuries.
Authorities determined that alcohol intoxication was a factor in the crash. Tello will be charged out of custody with DUI causing injury.
Investigation of this incident is still ongoing.
