Driver and Passenger Dead in Merced Accident on Highway 152 and Volta Road
MERCED COUNTY, CA (October 11, 2021) – Sunday morning, a crash on Highway 152 left Felipe Molina Loera, 33, and Maria Chavez Salas, 63, dead.
According to California Highway Patrol, the accident took place at around 6:05 a.m.
Moreover, witnesses called authorities to Highway 152 and Volta Road.
Reports revealed that an eastbound 2008 Volvo big rig hauled a fully loaded trailer of dairy products. Then, it collided with a speeding southbound 1999 Honda Accord.
Then, CHP said that the southbound Honda crossed the westbound lane. Afterward, it entered the eastbound lane without yielding to the big rig.
Furthermore, responders pronounced the Honda driver and one passenger dead at the scene. The authorities identified the driver as 33-year-old Merced man Felipe Loera and the female passenger as 63-year-old Maria Salas.
Moreover, the big rig driver, 50-year-old Fidel Soto Artega of Delhi, sustained no injuries in the crash.
Meanwhile, officials do not believe that drugs or alcohol played a role in the fatal accident.
Also, the incident closed eastbound 152 at Volta for about two hours.
We extend our deepest sympathies to the family and friends of the victims of Felipe Loera and Maria Chavez Salas.
