Father Mathew Vellankal and Archbishop Dominic Jala Dead, Father Parekkatt Injured in Williams Car Accident
WILLIAMS, CA (October 14, 2019) – Father Mathew Vellankal and Archbishop Dominic Jala died after a car crash on Thursday, October 10.
Father Jala and Father Vellankal were traveling to Clearlake in when the Toyota Prius that they were in crashed with a semi-truck.
According to CHP, at around 11 p.m., the Toyota Prius moved westbound on Highway 16 and may have failed to yield to traffic at Highway 20. Then the Prius pulled out from the stop sign directly in front of semi-truck. This resulted in the Prius being broadsided.
The incident claimed the life of Father Vellankal who was Pastor at St. Bonaventure in Concord. Archbishop Dominic Jala of the Archdiocese of Shillong in India also died at the incident.
A third Pastor, Father Parekkatt of St. Anne Parish in Walnut Creek, sustained injuries. He is now in stable condition at Santa Rosa Hospital.
