Car Crashes into South Putah Canal on Ledgewood Road Killing One
FAIRFIELD, CA (October 7, 2019) – A father was killed after a car crashed into an irrigation canal Monday afternoon in unincorporated Solano County, authorities said.
The crash happened just before 2:00 p.m. on Ledgewood Road near Mankas Corner Road.
According to the CHP, a father and son were traveling home from work inside a Toyota Corolla. For unknown reasons, the car crashed through a chain-link fence and came to rest in the Putah South canal, submerged, about 20 feet from the roadway.
The father, a Fairfield man in his 50s, was pulled from the vehicle but life-saving efforts were unsuccessful. He died at the scene.
The 27-year-old son, also a Fairfield resident, survived in the crash but sustained serious injuries. He was the one driving the car.
The Solano County Sheriff’s Office’s dive team, the Solano County coroner’s office and a chaplain responded to the fatal crash.
Alcohol or drugs are not suspected as factors in the crash, which remains under investigation.
