FAA Investigates Fatal Plane Crash near Watsonville Municipal Airport

Watsonville, CA (August 18, 2022) – Thursday afternoon, two small planes collided mid-air and landed near Watsonville Municipal Airport resulting in multiple fatalities.

The fatal plane crash happened at around 3 p.m. on August 18.

The Firefighters, Watsonville Police Department officers, and California Highway Patrol officers are responding to the scene.

Reportedly, the two pilots were both attempting to land before their aircraft collided.

After the mid-air collision, one plane crashed into one of the airport’s buildings. 

While the other plane crashed in a neighborhood next to the airport, at the intersection of Buena Vista Drive and Calabasas Road.

The Federal Aviation Administration said, “A single-engine Cessna 152 and a twin-engine Cessna 340 collided while the pilots were on their final approaches to Watsonville Municipal Airport. One person was on board the Cessna 152 and two people were on board the Cessna 340. The FAA and the National Transportation Safety Board will investigate.”

No other injuries were reported on the ground.
