1 Dead and Joseph Watson Injured in Crash at Saddleback Drive
MARYSVILLE, CA (June 1, 2018) – A woman was killed and another person was seriously injured in a two-vehicle collision on Highway 70, late Friday afternoon.
California Highway Patrol officials received a report about the collision at around 4:20 PM. Units from the Marysville Fire Department, Cal Trans and Bi-County Ambulance, and Yuba County Sheriff’s Department all arrived at the scene.
Joseph Watson, 37, was driving his 1996 Ford Explorer heading south on Highway 70, when he made an unsafe turn across the center line. The Explorer then went directly in the path of a 1998 Toyota Corolla in the opposite lane. The two vehicles collided head-on, blocking both lanes of the 70 freeway.
Watson was transported to the Rideout Memorial Hospital and authorities stated that drugs or alcohol were not believed to be a factor. The preliminary investigation suggests that Watson may have been distracted at the time of the collision.
The name of the woman killed in the incident was not immediately announced, pending notification of next-of-kin. No additional information has been released to the public at this time.
