1 Killed in Monterey County Train Collision near Rodgers Road
MONTEREY COUNTY, CA (November 15, 2019) – A person died in a truck and train collision near Rodgers Road on November 14.
The incident occurred at about 6:50 near Rodgers Road and Highway 183, south of Castroville. The northbound Coast Starlight Amtrak train crashed into the truck. As a result, the truck driver succumbed to his injuries at the scene. An occupant of the train sustained injuries. During the collision, there are about 167 passengers and 16 crew members on board the train.
Reports revealed that the portable toilet maintenance truck spilled 750 gallons of sewage in the area.
The train tracks shut down during the CHP’s investigation. Meanwhile, Union Pacific took charge of the clean-up.
