Bakersfield, CA (October 18, 2024) On Wednesday evening, a person lost his life after a tragic pedestrian crash on Potomac Avenue.

According to the Bakersfield Police Department (BPD), the deadly accident happened at about 7:29 p.m. on South King Street.

Reports say that a pedestrian tragically lost his life after being hit by a pick-up truck near Union Cemetery at Potomac Avenue and South King Street.

Authorities say that first responders arrived to find the victim suffering from severe injuries in the 900 block of South King Street. Unfortunately, he was pronounced dead at the scene.

The investigation revealed that the driver of a green pick-up truck was heading southbound on South King Street when the pedestrian entered the road.

Officials say that the driver remained at the scene and fully cooperated with law enforcement.

Authorities do not believe unsafe speed or impairment contributed to the accident. They also reminded the public that the 900 block of South King Street is a two-lane divided highway with a speed limit of 35 miles per hour.

The Kern County Coroner’s Office will release the man’s identity at a later time as the investigation continues.
