1 Killed in Oakland Hit-and-Run Accident on 580 Freeway
OAKLAND, CA (March 2, 2020) – Tuesday night, a man was killed in a hit-and-run accident on 580 Freeway.
Authorities responded to the collision around 9:30 p.m., just east of the 80 Freeway split.
Officers say an unidentified male driver veered his vehicle off and back on the road on the westbound lanes. There, a dark green vehicle struck him.
Following the impact, the driver of the dark green vehicle escaped the scene. Meanwhile, medics pronounced the male victim dead on scene, due to the extent of his injuries.
Meanwhile, CHP Officer Sean Layton revealed that they still do not have a description for the hit-and-run driver. In addition, police do not believe that alcohol or drug impairment played a role.
The collision led officers to issue a Sig-alert that shut down all westbound lanes for a brief time. The officers also diverted traffic off to the West Street off-ramp.
At this time, authorities are urging anyone who saw the collision to call the CHP Oakland office at 510-457-2875.
