1 Person Dead in Newport Beach Auto Accident on 73 Freeway near Macarthur Boulevard

NEWPORT BEACH, CA (September 17, 2024) – Sunday night, a fatal head-on crash on 73 Freeway near Macarthur Boulevard killed one person.

The incident happened at around  9:26 p.m. on Corona del Mar (73) Freeway, just north of Macarthur Boulevard.

According to the California Highway Patrol, a northbound vehicle that was traveling in the southbound lane for still unknown reasons collided head-on with another vehicle. Then, one of the vehicles erupted into flames after the crash.

Moreover, officers confirmed that at least one person died in the crash.

Furthermore, the crash closed the southbound 73 Freeway, and traffic was diverted off the freeway at Campus Drive.

At this time, the events leading to the crash remained unclear. When additional information becomes available, the public will be notified.

Due to limited information, the CHP continued investigating the crash.
