1 Killed and 2 Injured in Chain Reaction Collision near Highway 534
CONWAY, WA (July 18, 2018) – On Wednesday afternoon, one person was killed and two were injured in a four-vehicle crash on 5 Freeway. The accident involved two semi-trucks and two other cars.
State troopers and medics were alerted about a serious crash and arrived at the scene around 1:15 PM in the northbound lanes of Interstate 5, near the Highway 534 interchange. They found two wrecked cars and two big rigs blocking all northbound lanes at the crash site.
The investigation revealed that one of the semi-trucks was unable to stop for traffic that had backed up near a construction zone. The truck rear-ended a passenger vehicle, which caused a chain reaction collision into another car in front. The driver of the vehicle hit by the semi was killed, and the passenger was seriously injured. The driver of another vehicle was also injured.
A four-mile backup formed within a half-hour after the crash as authorities had to close the northbound 5 Freeway. No further details have been disclosed at this time.
