1 Dead in Bellevue Motorcycle Collision
BELLEVUE, WA (October 23, 2019) – A person died in a wrong-way car and motorcycle accident on Highway 520 on October 18.
Authorities received reports of the crash at around 11:15 a.m., Trooper Rick Johnson revealed. Reports identified a blue pickup heading west in the eastbound lanes of Highway 520
Before the responders arrived, the pickup already hit and killed a motorcycle rider just after passing 92nd Avenue. The impact ejected the motorcyclist and the bike caught fire after the collision.
“We tried to get there as quickly as we could, but unfortunately we couldn’t get there before tragedy struck,” Johnson stated.
The collision caused the pickup to lose a tire and suffer front end damage. However, the 79-year-old male driver went driving the wrong way until it stopped on the shoulder of the eastbound lanes just east of 84th Avenue. The area where the car stopped was about three-quarters of a mile away from the crash scene.
The lanes of eastbound 250 shut down at 84th Avenue following the incident. These lanes have since reopened.
The detectives are still investigating the reason why the pickup driver went the wrong way, or if he suffered from impairment or disorientation.
