1 Dead and 3 Hurt in Redding Car Crash on Highway 299
REDDING, CA (November 8, 2019) – A person died and three others suffered injuries in a car crash on Highway 299 on November 6.
The incident happened around 8 p.m. on Highway 299 at Newfound Way. Reports revealed that a deputy with the Shasta County Sheriff’s Office traveled west on Highway 299 while responding to a call in the Rock Creek area. However, a deer ran into the road. The deputy tried to avoid the deer by veering his vehicle. As a result, he struck an eastbound car on Highway 299.
In addition, the collision caused the other vehicle to catch fire.
Two people from the burning car got saved and suffered major and moderate injuries. However, authorities confirmed that the third occupant died at the scene.
Meanwhile, the deputy’s vehicle went off the road. Responders took him to Mercy Medical in Redding for treatment of his injuries.
The CHP Multidisciplinary Accident Investigation Team worked at the scene for the next several hours.
Moreover, authorities shut down 299W approximately 2.5 miles west from Shasta due to the crash.
