1 Dead and 1 Injured in Visalia Car Accident on Avenue 264
VISALIA, CA (October 1, 2019) – A 51-year-old Ivanhoe male resident died while another sustained injuries in a car accident on Avenue 264 on September 26.
Authorities received a report of the car accident on Avenue 264 and Road 156 at about 5:30 p.m. Upon their arrival, they located two vehicles that had crashed at the intersection. The crash sent one vehicle to roll over in a walnut grove.
The incident badly hurt both drivers.
According to officers, 21-year-old Helia Vanbeek of Tipton drove a 2010 Ford west on Avenue 264. Meanwhile, the 51-year-old Ivanhoe man drove his 1996 Nissan south on Road 156. As both vehicles approached the intersection, Vanbeek ran a red light at 55 mph. The two vehicles crashed head-on.
The Ford then struck a stop sign at the southwest corner of the intersection and overturned. The vehicle then stopped in a walnut orchard.
Meanwhile, the Nissan stopped in the eastbound lane of Avenue 264, west of the intersection.
Paramedics treated and took Helia Vanbeek to Kaweah Delta Medical Center. However, responders flew the man to the hospital, where he later died.
Furthermore, authorities ruled out alcohol as a factor in the fatal car accident. However, it’s still unclear whether the man wore a seatbelt at the time of the crash.
Authorities are encouraging anyone with information to contact the Visalia CHP Office at 734-6767.
