54-Year-Old Bicyclist Struck and Killed by DUI Driver at 27th Street; Julie Brose Arrested
GLENWOOD SPRINGS, CO (June 2, 2018) – A man was fatally injured in a bicycle accident on South Glen Avenue, late Saturday night.
The collision took place at the intersection of 27th Street and South Glen Avenue (Colorado Highway 82), just before midnight.
According to Glenwood Springs Police Department Chief Terry Wilson, the 54-year-old male bicyclist was crossing the intersection, traveling eastbound in a crosswalk against the traffic light. A southbound vehicle was able to stop in time to avoid a collision with the biker, but a northbound vehicle struck him.
He sustained major injuries and was taken to the Valley View Hospital, where he was later pronounced dead. The driver, 50-year-old Julie Brose of Glenwood Springs, stayed at the scene. She was cited on multiple charges including DUI and vehicular homicide.
Authorities continue to investigate the fatal crash, and believe that speed may have also played a factor. The bicyclist was also said to be very difficult to see. He was reported to be wearing a head lamp on his head, but it is unclear if it was on or not.
No additional information has been released to the public at this time.
Heartfelt condolences to the loved ones of the deceased victim. Wishing them strength and comfort during this difficult time. May he rest in peace.
