5-Vehicle Pileup on Highway 12 in Fairfield Kills 1 and Injures Several Others
FAIRFIELD, CA (May 8, 2019) – One person was killed following a multi-vehicle crash Wednesday afternoon in Fairfield.
The fatal crash was reported at 3:27 p.m. on eastbound Highway 12 at Beck Avenue.
According to the California Highway Patrol, a white van failed to slow down to traffic and rear-ended a Volkswagen that was stopped at a light at Beck Avenue. The Volkswagen then struck the rear of a gray Honda sedan, which hit a BMW sedan, which struck the back of an Audi sedan.
The driver of the Volkswagen, a Suisun City man, was pronounced dead at the scene. Two people, including the driver of the van, were hospitalized.
Two others were treated at the scene.
The crash closed the eastbound lanes and a nearby on-ramp onto eastbound Highway 12 for two and a half hours.
Traffic is being diverted off at Chadbourne Road. Motorists were advised to expect delays and to use alternate routes to avoid the area.
The crash remains under investigation.
