Mother and Daughter Fatally Injured in Wrong-Way Collision near Arlington Avenue
RIVERSIDE, CA (August 10, 2018) – A mother and her daughter were killed early Friday morning following a wrong-way crash near Arlington Avenue exit.
According to the California Highway Patrol, the deadly collision took place at about 1:45 AM. A vehicle was seen heading west in the eastbound lanes of 91 Freeway. Moments later, authorities received calls reporting that the wrong-way driver had collided head-on with a second vehicle.
Two women in the second vehicle – 74-year-old Ethel Granados of San Bernardino and 52-year-old Fatima Granados of Riverside – sustained fatal injuries and were pronounced dead at the scene. A GoFundMe page was created to assist the victims’ family with funeral expenses.
A third person in the vehicle was transported to the hospital with major injuries. Meanwhile, the unidentified wrong-way driver was also hospitalized with unspecified injuries. He is expected to be booked on suspicion of felony DUI, but additional charges are possible.
No additional information has been disclosed to the public at this time, as the investigation on the fatal incident continues.
