Esoterica Spivey Dead, Driver Arrested After Crash on Eastex Freeway in Humble

Humble, TX (October 9, 2024) – On Wednesday evening, 40-year-old Esoterica Spivey died, and one passenger sustained injuries in a crash on Eastex Freeway.

According to Houston Police, officers in Humble identified a stolen silver Chevrolet Trailblazer and attempted to pull the vehicle over, but the driver refused, initiating a high-speed pursuit.

Multiple law enforcement agencies, including Houston PD, the Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office, and the Montgomery County Pct. 4 Constable’s Office, were involved in the chase. 

At one point, the suspect briefly stopped to allow a female passenger to exit the vehicle, and she was taken into custody. 

The driver then continued southbound in the northbound lanes of I-69’s feeder road near Rankin Road.

Due to the danger, police halted their pursuit, leaving only a helicopter to track the vehicle. Shortly after, the driver crashed into a Kia Soul on the Eastex Freeway near Rankin Road. 

The driver of the Kia, identified as 40-year-old Esoterica Spivey, was critically injured and later died at the hospital. A 43-year-old male passenger in the Kia was also hospitalized with injuries.

The driver of the stolen vehicle, a 25-year-old man, was treated at Kingwood Hospital and then taken into custody. 

Houston Police are conducting the crash investigation, while Humble Police are pursuing charges of Homicide and Felony Evading in a Motor Vehicle against the suspect.
