Officials Identify Erlinda Domingo, Arrest Juan Martinez in Fatal DUI Crash in Fremont
FREMONT, CA (March 20, 2019) – A woman was killed in a suspected DUI-related crash in Fremont Sunday evening. The collision happened at around 6:15 p.m. on Central Avenue just east of Blacow Road.
According to a release from the police, the crash involved a minivan and a Honda Civic. The driver of the Honda, 70-year-old Erlinda Domingo of Newark, was pronounced dead at the scene.
The driver of the minivan, 47-year-old Juan Martinez of Newark, fled on foot but was located by officers in a nearby neighborhood and taken into custody. Martinez is being held at the Fremont Jail in lieu of $95,000 bail, with charges filed on Tuesday.
Court records indicate that Martinez pleaded no contest on April 27, 2017, to a misdemeanor drunk driving charge and was placed on a five-year probation. In exchange for his plea, Alameda County prosecutors dismissed four other misdemeanor counts that it had filed against him: hit-and-run, resisting a peace officer, and driving on a suspended license.
Central Avenue was closed in both directions for several hours as police conducted their investigation and gathered evidence.
Our thoughts and prayers are with the family and loved ones of Erlinda Domingo.
