Erlinda Domingo Dead, Juan Martinez Arrested in Fremont Hit-and-Run Crash
FREMONT, CA (March 20, 2019) — A woman died after an alleged DUI fatal hit-and-run collision in Fremont on Sunday, March 17.
According to police spokeswoman Geneva Bosques, the crash occurred on Central Avenue, east of Blacow Road at about 6:15 p.m.
Police said that 47-year-old Juan Martinez, of Newark, was driving a van that collided with a Honda Civic. The collision claimed the life of 70-year-old Erlinda Domingo, of Newark, who was a passenger in the Honda.
Martinez left the area on foot but officers saw him in a nearby neighborhood a short time later. They arrested him on suspicion of felony hit-and-run with injuries and driving under the influence causing injury or death.
Investigators believe that alcohol is a possible factor in the collision, police said.
Police held Martinez at the Fremont Jail in lieu of $95,000 bail. He had a scheduled arraignment at the Fremont Hall of Justice at 2 p.m. Tuesday.
