CHP Vehicle Involved in Nakoma Police Chase on Sierra Valley near Beckwourth
NAKOMA, CA (January 11, 2022) – Sunday night, authorities arrested Erik Rebert Johnston after a hit-and-run crash on Sierra Valley.
According to the California Highway Patrol, the incident started at around 6:39 p.m. A green Dodge 1500 pickup side swiped another vehicle then fled the scene westbound on Highway 70.
Then, CHP Officer P. Connelly managed to locate the Dodge on Highway 70 near Dotta Guidicci Road. Afterward, Connelly initiated an enforcement stop but the Dodge refused to pull over and accelerated at a high rate of speed.
Reports revealed that Officer Connelly briefly lost sight of the Dodge and made a right turn from Main Street onto A-15. However, the hit-and-run vehicle intentionally struck Officer Connely when it made a U-turn towards the A-15 and Main Street intersection. Then, the Dodge continued to flee after the collision.
Moreover, a Plumas County Sheriff’s deputy saw the collision and started to pursue the Dodge. Unfortunately, the deputy lost sight of the vehicle eventually. Moments later, officers located the Dodge in a nearby restaurant parking lot. Then, a silver Subaru pulled up to the scene while officers searched the building. The right front seat occupant claimed that the Dodge was stolen.
Furthermore, Officer Connelly positively identified the right front seat occupant of the Subaru as the hit-and-run driver. Then, officers arrested the suspect, Erik Rebert Johnston of Portola. He’s facing charges of assault with the deadly weapon, hit and run collision, felony evading a police officer, a DUI charge causing injuries, and battery against a police officer.
It is important to always abide by all traffic laws and to do your part to prevent devastating consequences to you and others. If you find yourself unable to safely operate a vehicle, there are always other options for transportation.
