Erica Jones Arrested in Fatal Pedestrian Crash on Ashlan Avenue [Fresno, CA]

1 Dead in Fresno Pedestrian Accident on Ashlan Avenue and Highway 41

FRESNO, CA (April 25, 2023) – Early Monday, authorities arrested Erica Jones following a fatal pedestrian crash on Ashlan Avenue.

The incident occurred at about 1:30 a.m. on Ashlan Avenue at Highway 41, said the Fresno Police Department.

Reports said that a Fresno County sheriff’s deputy attempted to pull over a car for speeding on Hwy. 41. However, the driver declined and traveled at a high rate of speed.

Thus, the deputy did not pursue the vehicle.

Eventually, the driver lost control and struck a chain link fence. Then, it overturned into a dirt lot. Afterward, it struck the tent with the women inside.

Then, responders took the women to Community Regional Medical Center. However, one woman succumbed to injuries. Meanwhile, the other woman was listed in critical condition.

Officers confirmed that the driver of the car fled from the crash. However, the witnesses provided gave her description and the direction she went.

Eventually, officers found her matching the description and arrested her.

Officers revealed that 37-year-old Jones drove the wheel. Also, she had her 10-year-old brother in the car.

Officers determined that she drove while under the influence of drugs or alcohol.

Reports said Jones has a prior DUI. Thus, the authorities will charge her with homicide, hit and run causing death, and more felonies because of the prior DUI.
