Osiris Miceli Dead, Damien Sousa Arrested in National Park Drive Crash
Joshua Tree National Park, CA (October 03, 2021) – On September 30, 27-year-old Erica Capidanie of Covina suffered injuries, while officers arrested 38-year-old Damien Sousa of San Dimas, in a fatal DUI crash on Park Boulevard.
The fatal crash took place at about 7:35 p.m. at National Park Drive, and within the Joshua Tree National Park.
Investigating officers said Sousa was driving a black 2004 Ford F250 with two passengers, a 29-year-old Glendora man, and Capidanie.
Suddenly, the Ford swerved to the right onto the dirt shoulder. Sousa attempted to turn the Ford back onto the road but he lost control of the vehicle.
The Ford overturned and rested on its roof.
The Glendora man, identified as Osiris Miceli, 29, was partially thrown from the vehicle and lost his life at the scene.
Right away, rescuers rushed Capidanie to Desert Regional Medical Center with suspected minor injuries.
On the other hand, Sousa sustained minor injuries. Officers evaluated Sousa for DUI and subsequently arrested him.
The authorities held in Sousa in West Valley Detention Center in lieu of $250,000 bail. He is due in Morongo Basin Superior Court, at 8:30 a.m. Monday, October 4, to face charges including gross vehicular manslaughter while intoxicated and driving under the influence of alcohol causing injury.
