Driver Dies after Crashing Car into Large Tree at East Chard and Samson Avenues
GERBER, CA (May 2, 2019) – A man was killed following a car accident Thursday morning in Gerber.
First responders arrived on the scene around 6:48 a.m. at East Chard and Samson avenues and found a 2000 Jeep Cherokee in a field with a tree on top of it.
According to reports, the SUV was traveling eastbound on Chard Avenue at a high rate of speed when it failed to negotiate a curve on the road. As a result, it drove straight into an orchard. It then struck a large tree.
The driver, identified as a 57-year-old Eric Peterson of Gerber, was declared dead at the scene.
According to the CHP logs, the car engine was cold and the car appeared to have been there for a while.
California Highway Patrol officials are in the process of investigating the incident.
