Teen Driver Fatally Injured in Broadside Collision near Mountain View Road
DESERT HOT SPRINGS, CA (September 17, 2018) – A teen driver was killed early Monday morning, following a two-vehicle crash near Mountain View Road. The victim was later identified as 19-year-old Eric Gamboa, a resident of Desert Hot Springs.
According to the Desert Hot Springs Police Department, the incident took place at about 1:30 AM on Hacienda Avenue. The teen did not stop at a red light near the intersection, and he was broadsided by a vehicle.
Gamboa was critically injured and was rushed to the Desert Regional Medical Center in Palm Springs for treatment. Unfortunately, he succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead a fews hours later at 5:10 AM.
The driver of the second vehicle suffered a broken collarbone, while his 3-year-old passenger was unharmed. They were both transported to an area hospital for treatment and medical evaluation. There are no updates on their identities or current medical conditions.
Alcohol, drugs, and/or distracted driving do not appear to have played a factor at this time. Additional information will be released following the conclusion of the investigation.
