Eric Arakelyan Involved in Deadly Speeding Crash on Newport Beach 73 Toll Road

 
NEWPORT BEACH, CA (June 16, 2021) – Tuesday afternoon, Eric Arakelyan, 19, was arrested for a fatal speeding crash on the 73 Freeway Toll Road near Jamboree Road.
 
According to California Highway Patrol spokesman Officer Tino Olivera, the incident happened at around 3:55 p.m.
 
Moreover, it occurred southbound on the73 Freeway near the border of Newport Beach and Irvine Boulevard.
 
Reports revealed that a white BMW 540i traveled at a high rate of speed southbound. Then, it collided with a vintage red Jaguar that rode in the northbound lanes. The force of the wrong-way crash pushed the red vehicle to roll over.
 
Furthermore, responders confirmed that the male 1959 Jaguar driver died in the accident. At around 4:21 p.m. coroner’s officials responded to the scene.
 
Meanwhile, officials said that no one else was injured in the incident.
 
Moreover, the identity of the deceased man remains undisclosed due to pending family notification.
 
The speeding driver was identified as Eric Arakelyan, of Glendale.
 
Authorities arrested the teen, and confirmed that excessive speed factored into the fatal Newport Beach collision.
 
Also, officers closed both directions of the 73 Freeway and the transition from the southbound 55 Freeway to the southbound 73 toll road. All roads have long since reopened.
