Injuries Reported in Santa Maria Deadly Crash
Santa Maria, CA (Septermber 9, 2024) – Eribertha Martinez-Amado was injured in a deadly vehicle crash on W Main Street late Saturday night.
The emergency rescuers responded at 11:10 p.m. to the three-vehicle crash west of Hanson Way.
Troopers said an eastbound Nissan Kick driver started to overtake a 2008 Nissan Frontier that was in front of him. The Nissan Kick’s driver used the left turn lane to overtake traffic but the vehicle crashed into a westbound Dodge Journey. Officers said it is possible that the Dodge Journey was in the lane waiting to turn when the Nissan Kick crashed into it.
The Dodge Journey was then pushed into the Nissan Frontier.
Unfortunately, the 21-year-old Santa Maria man who was driving the Kick was killed at the crash scene.
Witnesses stated the Nissan Kick’s driver had been crossing double yellow lines and passing vehicles before the collision.
One of the involved vehicles ended up on its rooftop while a truck ended in a ditch 10 feet from the roadway.
Moreover, the 2016 Dodge Journey’s male driver handed a 1-year-old child to a bystander and left the scene.
Eribertha Martinez-Amado, who was a passenger of the 2016 Dodge Journey, a mother of the infant, and Wendi Pacheco-Lopez, 32, of Santa Maria, who was the Nissan Frontier’s driver, received minor injuries.
Officers said the child incurred moderate injuries.
Responding medical team rushed one patient with moderate injuries and another with minor injuries to Marian Regional Medical Center.
Meanwhile, CHP officers were investigating and believe alcohol was a factor in the deadly crash.
Anyone with information about the crash is urged to call the CHP’s Santa Maria Area Office at 805.608.6310.
