19-Year-Old Ejected From Vehicle in Solo-Car Accident near Milepost 88
PROSSER, WA (June 27, 2018) – On Wednesday morning, a teenager died after being thrown out of a vehicle in a rollover crash on the 82 Freeway. The deceased victim was later identified as 19-year-old Enrique Rivas-Smith of Marysville.
At around 6:40 AM, Washington State Patrol troopers arrived at the scene of a solo-car crash, 6 miles east of Prosser. Rivas-Smith was driving a black 2007 BMW X3 4-door westbound on I-82 near milepost 88, with a 17-year-old passenger.
The vehicle veered off road and rolled, causing Rivas-Smith to be ejected from the SUV. The vehicle came to a stop on its roof.
Rivas-Smith suffered critical injuries and was transported to the Kadlec Medical Center, where he was later pronounced dead. The juvenile passenger was injured and rushed to the Prosser Memorial Hospital. There is no update on the current medical condition of the minor.
Preliminary investigation revealed that neither occupant of the BMW was wearing a seat belt at the time of the crash. Drugs or alcohol were not immediately declared to be involved in the incident, and the investigation is still ongoing at this time.
