Craig Simons Injured and Enrique Ramirez Sanchez Fatally Injured in Accident near Sixth Avenue
ORLANDO, CA (April 25, 2018) – One man was killed and another injured in a two-car collision on County Road 9, early Wednesday morning.
According to the California Highway Patrol, the accident took place around 6:00 AM, at the intersection of County Road 9 and Sixth Avenue. The deceased victim was identified by the Glenn County Sheriff Coroner’s Office as 55-year-old Enrique Ramirez Sanchez of Corning.
A GMC, driven by 27-year-old Craig Simons of Orland, was traveling eastbound on County 9 going 55 mph when a Ford Ranger entered the intersection. Simons applied his brakes and turned left to try and avoid the collision, but struck Sanchez’s car.
The GMC traveled west and came to a stop facing southwest, just west of the intersection. The Ford came to a stop facing northeast, just west of the intersection.
Sanchez was not wearing a seatbelt at the time of the collision and was ejected onto the eastbound lane of County Road 9. Emergency personnel arrived at the scene of the crash and pronounced him dead from injuries sustained. Simons sustained unknown injuries.
