Enrique Mendoza Killed in Head-On Crash on Highway 32 [Hamilton City, CA]

One Dead and One Injured in Two-Vehicle Collision on Hamilton Nord Cana Highway

 
HAMILTON CITY, CA (May 23, 2018) – One man was killed Wednesday afternoon and another was left with serious injuries following a two-vehicle collision. The Butte County Coroner’s Office identified the fatality as 66-year-old Enrique Mendoza of Hamilton City.
 
According to the California Highway Patrol, they received reports about two vehicles colliding around 1 PM on Highway 32, between Meridian Road and Hamilton Nord Cana Highway.
 
A westbound silver Infiniti four-door sedan, driven by Mendoza, was found after striking a fence near Meridian Road. Mendoza was trying to pass traffic by going through the opposite lane when he collided head-on with an eastbound red Dodge SUV, as per police reports.
 
A statement from a witness described the collision in a different way. Mendoza appeared to have lost control of the vehicle, driving in and out of both the westbound and eastbound lanes, before colliding with the Dodge. The events leading up to the deadly crash were not immediately confirmed.
 
Mendoza was found dead inside the vehicle, and had to be removed by firefighters. The unidentified driver of the Dodge, who was determined to be a family member of one of the responding firefighters, was rushed to the Enloe Medical Center in Chico with serious injuries. There is no update on their current condition.
 
Areas affected by the collision were temporarily shut down for clearing and investigation. Authorities reopened the lanes approximately two hours later. No other information is available to the public at this time.
