1 Person Arrested in Cathedral City Auto Accident on Date Palm Drive near Varner Road

CATHEDRAL CITY, CA (December 26, 2023) – Monday night, Enma Calbillo died in a brutal DUI crash on Date Palm Drive near Varner Road.

The incident happened at around 11:21 p.m. on Date Palm Drive, south of Varner Road.

According to the Cathedral City Police Department, a northbound vehicle made an unsafe turn into the southbound lanes and collided with two other vehicles. Then, the driver of the first vehicle fled the scene after the crash.

Moreover, responders pronounced one of the drivers, 48-year-old Calbillo, dead at the scene.

Furthermore, officers managed to locate, arrest, and book the suspect, 21-year-old Angel Torres, into Riverside County John Benoit Detention Center, on suspicion of DUI.

At this time, the events leading to the crash remained unclear. When additional information becomes available, the public will be notified.
