66-Year-Old Seattle Man Identified in Fatal Crash on 5 Freeway near Yesler Way
SEATTLE, WA (February 17, 2018) – A 66-year-old man was struck and killed by a car on Interstate 5 near Yesler Way, on Saturday morning.
The man was identified by authorities on Sunday afternoon as Enkhtaivan Zagdsuren. WSP reported the fatal accident around 3:10 AM. The pedestrian was said to be on the southbound lanes of the 5 freeway, near the Yesler Way collector-distributor, when he was hit by a southbound 2018 Kia Optima.
The man was then hit by several other vehicles on the road. Authorities and emergency personnel arrived at the scene of the crash; Zagdsuren was pronounced dead from blunt injuries. The 35-year-old Federal Way woman driving the Optima was Laine Pettet; she was not injured in the crash. No other injuries or damages have been reported at this time.
Two lanes of the freeway were blocked for almost 3 hours while investigation took place. Authorities continue to investigate the cause of the fatal accident.
